The Larvae League kicked off in January 2025 with a field trip to the campus food depackager and anaerobic digester. This is the site where Inzyt Prototype 1 is located! We learned from Dr. Wenting Li’s journey in building a pilot scale food waste bioconversion reactor and BSFL rearing setup. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER program, this group of undergraduate researchers are innovating insect-based bioconversion strategies for solid waste organics. Student teams will also work on devising strategies to sequester and remove bioaccumulative persistent organic micropollutants like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
